Modak
Modak is as Goan sweet, popular in many parts of India. The sweet filling on the inside of a Modak consist of freshly grated coconut and jaggery while the outer soft shell is made from Rice flour or wheat flour.
The modak is the favourite sweet of the deity Ganesha. During Ganesh chaturthi, the puja always concludes with a offering 21 Modaks to Ganesha as prasad.
Ingredients
For the stuffing
- 1 bowl grated coconut
- 1/2 bowl jaggery
- A pinch of cardamon and nutmeg powder
- 2 bowl Rice flour
- A pinch of salt
- 2 spoon of oil or ghee
- Hot water as per requirement
For stuffing
- Heat ghee in a pan
- Add grated coconut, jaggery, cardamon, nutmeg powder and mix it.
- Cook till all moisture from jaggery beings to dry
- Do not over cook as it will harden and lose it's taste.
- Boil water
- Add a pinch of salt and ghee to the flour and mix it
- Make a small balls of flour
- Flatten it to give it the shape of cone
- Put some stuffing in it and close the ends to give them shape
- Heat oil in the frying pan and deep fry the Modaks on low or medium flame till they turn golden brown from all sides.
